A Johnson County organization that seeks to fight political extremist groups has formed a chapter in Douglas County.

The MAINstream coalition, a non-partisan coalition of religious, business, political and community leaders, on Thursday night formed a Douglas County chapter.

The following people were elected to the new chapter's board of directors: Barbara Frick, Bill Stype, Craig Templeton, Ellen Reid Gold, Gary Hale, Josh Stein, Kay Hale, Mavis Wiseman, Ruth Turney and Sid Shapiro.

The MAINstream coalition was formed by the Rev. Robert Meneilly to counteract threats to Constitutional freedoms by sectarian and political extremists.

The organization claims more than 60 active members who live in Douglas County.
