— Memorial services for Laird V. Hawley, 75, Baldwin, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Vassar United Methodist Church. Burial will be held at a later date in Wayne Cemetery, Lewis.

Mr. Hawley died Friday, May 22, 1998, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe.

He was born July 16, 1922, in Belpre, the son of Frank and Olive Laird Hawley. He had lived in Baldwin for 10 years after moving from Neodesha.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps as a test pilot. After the war, he returned to farming in central Kansas. In 1960 he began working in industrial sales, industrial management and agricultural equipment sales. He continued to work in aviation after his retirement.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Baldwin, and attended the Vassar United Methodist Church.

He married Helen Curtis on June 10, 1944, in Lewis. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Scott, Staunton, Ill., and Kevin, Lecompton; a brother, Paul, Hutchinson; a sister, Loraine Ary, Hutchinson; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son.

The family suggests memorials to the Vassar United Methodist Church, and may be sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence, which is in charge of arrangements.
