INDEPENDENCE, MO. Services for Bessie May Taylor, 98, Independence, Mo., will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence.
Mrs. Taylor died Monday, May 25, 1998, at Rosewood Health Care Center in Independence.
She was born May 25, 1900 in Crescent City, Iowa, and moved to Holden, Mo., as a young girl.
She taught elementary school in Johnson County, Mo., before moving in 1925 to Lawrence, Kan. She headed the Social Service League store until she graduated from Kansas University in 1951. She again taught school until departing for Independence in 1965.
After retirement, Mrs. Taylor taught the Laubach method of English for foreigners and cared for Head Start children in her home until she turned 90.
She was a longtime member of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Harvest Hills Congregation.
Survivors include four sons, Wesley Taylor, Burson, Calif.; Edgar Taylor, Groves, Tex.; George Taylor, Lawrence, Kan.; and Herbert Taylor, Bennington, Vt; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel.
The family suggests memorials to Harvest Hills Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.
