Heitzman Second: Paul Heitzman of Eudora finished second overall in the age-graded men's masters portion of the NationsBank River Run last Saturday in Wichita. Heitzman, 67, was clocked in 40:16 and won $200.

Baker Basketball Camp: Baker University will conduct a basketball day camp for boys and girls entering grades five through eight from 9:30 a.m. to noon on June 22-25. For an application form, write Rick Weaver at the BU basketball office, Box 65, Baldwin, 66006.

  • Wyatt Low in JGC Meet: Greg Wyatt fired a 76 for low gross in last Saturday's Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar. Ken Mason and Chris Faddis both shot 77s while Jon Gerken and Mike Grosdidier had 79s. In net, Gerken was low with a 66, followed by Wyatt, Faddis and Don Burlinghoff, all with 71s.

  • Hatcher Grand Champ: Joshua Hatcher of Lecompton earned the grand championship of the Lawrence YABA Scholarship bowling tournament. Hatcher won $1,000 in college grant-in-aid. Other winners were Marvin Wiedeman III, Nick Jacob, Eric Topham, Erica Johnson-Wanzer, Adam Hadl, Amy Wyatt, David Arndt, Rich Altman, Dustin Kitchen, Ella Newman, Melissa Burnside and Jacob Kitchen.

  • Flames Earn Second: Lawrence Flames U-10 finished second in the AAU state girls basketball championships in Emporia. The Flames bowed to the Kansas City Belles, 34-32, in the championship game.

  • Vifian Runner-Up: Lawrence's Marcel Vifian finished second overall, nine seconds behind winner Gilberto Gonzalez of Brazil in the St. Kitt's International triathlon last Sunday in the Caribbean.

  • Jayhawk Trophy wins: Jayhawk Trophy won the Peter Cochrane Memorial baseball tournament for 13-14-year-olds last weekend at Holcom Complex. Ben Cross had five RBIs and Andrew Eisenbarger four for the champions. Also on the team were Nick Altieri, Zach Doyle, Isaac Bari, Ryan Bechtel, Alex Hosek, Leo Johnston, Curtis Lee, Bud Talkington, Mican Thomas, Chris Treanor and Mike Weaver. The coach is Don Doyle.

  • Summer Adult Leagues: Registrations will be taken through Friday at the Community Building for summer adult basketball and volleyball and Friday night men's slow-pitch leagues. For information, call 832-7922.

  • Free State Volleyball Camp: Free State volleyball coach Nancy Hopkins will conduct a camp for next year's seventh-, eighth- and ninth-graders on June 21-25. A camp from FSHS students only is scheduled for July 20-24. Information is available at either Free State or the four junior highs.
