On May 7, 1898, the Lawrence World reported on work being done by area principals and superintendents on improving the Kansas High School course of study. The World stated: ``It was decided to recommend a course of study of four years leading up the university. There were four studies at a time and 40 minutes to each recitation. It was also decided to recommend that business and manual training courses be added which were to be complete in themselves.''
