Services for Ruby Iola Jones, 80, Lawrence, are pending and will be announced by Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence.

Ms. Jones died Monday, May 4, 1998.

Survivors include a son, Max Jones, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; two daughters, Janice Walters of Lawrence and Hazel Yorgensen of Abilene; a brother, Max James, Abilene; and a sister, Barbara Jean Barber, Tustin, Calif.


Independence, Kan. -- Services for Helen Henry, 81, Independence, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Potts Chapel, Independence. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Cave Springs Cemetery, Sarcoxie, Mo.

Mrs. Henry died Monday, May 4, 1998, at Mercy Hospital, Independence.

She was born Sept. 14, 1916, in Stotts City, Mo., the daughter of Louis and Anna Ottensmeyer Fieker.

She was a member of the Bible Holiness Church, Independence.

She married G. Hoyt Henry on March 17, 1937, in Carthage, Mo. He died Oct. 29, 1996.

Survivors include three sons, David Henry and Rodger Henry, both of Lawrence, and George Henry, Independence; seven daughters, Mary Sue Sharples, Sarcoxie, Mo., Doris Chrisenbery, Monett, Mo., Phyllis Darbro, Independence, Alice Douglas, Fredonia, Karol May, Bartlesville, Okla., Janice Henry, Neodesha, and Joy Campbell, Olathe; two brothers, Walter Fieker and Nolan Fieker, both of Sarcoxie, Mo.; a sister, Bertha Barnes, Sarcoxie, Mo.; 26 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Potts Chapel in Independence from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Potts Chapel, Independence.

The family suggests memorials to the Independence Bible School or to the New Beginnings Enterprises, sent in care of Potts Chapel, P.O. Box 801, Independence 67301.


Indianapolis -- Services for Charles Lincoln Petefish, 54, Indianapolis, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Castleton United Methodist Church. Cremation is planned, with burial in Washington Park East Cemetery.

Mr. Petefish died Monday, May 4, 1998.

He was born Oct. 8, 1943, in Lawrence, the son of Arthur and Mary Steele Petefish.

He earned a master's degree from Kansas University. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Army. He worked for the Defense Financing and Accounting Service and was director of centralized disbursement.

Mr. Petefish was a member of Castleton United Methodist Church.

He married Susan Bachtell. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Kathryn Coomes, Evansville, Ind.; a son, Jackson, Indianapolis; and his mother, Mary Steele Petefish, Lawrence.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Shirley Brothers Castleton Chapel, Indianapolis, and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., sent in care of Shirley Brothers Mortuaries, 9606 E. Washington St., Indianapolis 46229.


Martin City, Mo. -- Services for James Burdette Smith, 83, Kansas City, Mo., will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Martin City Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Saturday, May 2, 1998, at Menorah Medical Center, Overland Park.

He was born Aug. 21, 1914, in Lawrence, the son of Jay and Grace Smith. He worked for the Kansas City Star as a linotype operator. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army.

He was a member of Communications Workers of America.

He married Eula Maye Smith on June 13, 1954. She died in April 1997.

Survivors include a son, Joseph Clough, Overland Park; a daughter, Geryl Craghead, Lubbock, Tex.; a sister, Alice Smith, Lawrence; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Mount Moriah and Freeman Chapel, Kansas City, Mo.

The family suggests memorials to Martin City Baptist Church, Martin City, Mo., 64147.
