Lawrence Memorial Hospital is offering a two-hour workshop Tuesday on the relationship of dietary calcium to osteoporosis.
Ten million Americans, including one-third of all postmenopausal women, are affected by osteoporosis. The workshop will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the hospital, 325 Maine.
Participants will learn how to determine their current intake of calcium, how much calcium is needed each day and how to fit high-calorie foods into their eating plan. Osteoporosis causes the rapid loss of bone mass, resulting in easily fractured hips, spine and wrist bones.
The course costs $10 per person and $15 per couple in the education classroom at the hospital. For more information, call 749-5800.
