Memorial services for Ethel I. ``Betty'' Isbell, 89, Lawrence, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Mrs. Isbell died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 26, 1908, in Butler, Mo., the daughter of Walter H. and Edna Home Bysom. She was a graduate of Butler High School in 1925 and the Lawrence Business College in 1928.

Mrs. Isbell moved to Lawrence three years ago from El Paso, Tex. She worked as an administrative assistant for the government and then retired as manager of the Holloman A.F. Base Civil Engineering Office in Alamagordo, N.M., in 1973.

In El Paso, she was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church, the National Secretaries Organization, National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the El Paso Writers League. She was also a Red Cross volunteer at Fort Bliss, Wm. Beaumont Hospital and El Paso Public Library.

In Lawrence, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Senior Center Creative Writing Group.

She married Floyd Isbell in 1947 in Wichita. He died in 1955.

Survivors include a sister, Iona Chapman, Elko, Nev.; and a brother, Clyde Bysom, Lawrence.

The family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church of Lawrence or the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. and may be sent in care of the Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
