Ottawa Officials from the Kansas Department of Human Resources will conduct counseling sessions March 11 for employees soon to lose their jobs at the Our Own Hardware distribution center here.
Shutdown of the distribution center was announced last week. The layoffs of about 130 employees are expected to proceed in phases between the end of April and August, said Angela Goering, a KDHR spokeswoman.
Goering said the agency will have four counseling sessions next Wednesday to advise workers of benefits and services available to them. The sessions will be at 1, 3, 5:30 and 7 p.m. at the distribution center.
The closing of Our Own was announced two months after the company was purchased by HWI, a home improvements buyer's cooperative based in Fort Wayne, Ind. HWI management said the Ottawa center wasn't big enough and would cost too much to renovate.
