College Station, Texas Kansas sophomore Tyler Painter won the 1,650 freestyle at the Big 12 swimming and diving championships Saturday in a record time of 15:01.72.
Kansas, however, settled for fifth place in the six-team meet. The Jayhawks scored 439 points. Texas won with 886.
Also Saturday, KU's Kostaki Chiligris was fifth in the 200 backstroke and Brandon Chestnut fourth in the 200 breaststroke. The Jayhawks were fourth in the 400 freestyle relay with Brant Peoples, Trent Hartl, Andy Kyser and Chiligris competing.
