``It's really a beautiful spot,'' said Mary Gage, whose mother- and father-in-law, John and Eleanor Gage, own the property south of Kansas Highway 10 near a golf driving range.

There are still ruts in the ground where wagons passed through the area en route from Independence, Mo. to Oregon, she said.

The Oregon-California Trails Assn. has presented awards to the Gages for allowing groups to tour the area, Mary Gage said.
