A local group studying juvenile crime and how to deal with it in Douglas County will kick off its campaign today.
The Douglas County Community Planning Team will meet with the public at 4 p.m. today at Lawrence City Hall. Albert Murray, commissioner of the Juvenile Justice Authority in Topeka, will talk about recent statewide efforts to reform the juvenile justice system. A panel of local officials will be on hand to answer questions or hear concerns about at-risk youth.
The planning team will submit a comprehensive plan for reducing and preventing juvenile crime to the justice authority later this year.
Today's forum will be telecast by Sunflower Cable from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. today. The public is invited to attend and ask questions.
