A 14-year-old Lawrence boy remained in critical condition Wednesday, a day after he was hit by a minivan while on a bicycle.
David A. Yoe underwent surgery Wednesday and remained in the Intensive Care Unit at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. The boy, the son of former Lawrence attorney Dan Yoe and Janet Yoe, may be in the ICU ``for many days,'' a family member said Wednesday.
Yoe was hit by the minivan when he apparently tried to cross a busy 31st Street between Louisiana Street and Haskell Avenue. He was going north from the Baker Wetlands, which is about a mile south of his house at 433 Neb., northwest of Haskell Indian Nations University.
Lynn Stebbins, Lawrence, 32, the driver of the minivan, swerved to avoid the collision. She was not cited in connection with the accident, according to Lt. Ken McGovern of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department. Stebbins was not injured. The accident happened in county jurisdiction, said Lawrence Police Sgt. George Wheeler.
