School is out for the summer, but 39 Lawrence students are getting a first-hand lesson in international relations and geography.

Twenty students left for Japan June 9. They are planting rice, visiting Lawrence's sister city of Hiratsuka and living with host families. They will return this week.

Students on the trip are:

Rachel Cloud-Holloway, Leni Dorfmeister, Tarah Herrington, Chris Hultine, Lesley Johnson, Elizabeth Kincaid, Jasmine Meakin, Stephen Moles, Jaime Morton, Aya Patterson, Mina Patterson, Nicholas Potter, Casey Rahmeier, Nathan Rahmeier, Jennifer Rogers, Ian Rombough, Janie Schneider, Riggs Skepnek, Hamsa Subramaniam and Amanda Umholtz.

July 7 marks the departure for students heading to Eutin, Germany. Once there they will visit castles, hike, and, like the Lawrence students in Japan, stay with host families. They will return to Lawrence July 23.

Students on the Eutin trip are: Benjamin Campbell-Bradley, Ryan Chapman, Martin Eisert, Karl Eisert, Ely Fair, Franklin Santini, Lincoln Lewis, Sarah Modrzynski, Tristan Moody, Brad Nutt, Elizabeth Snyder, Philip Stacey, Sam Strickler-Hut, Laurna Strikwerda, Sarah Underwood, Jessica Weaver, Jay Wiesner, Bernadette Wiesner and Jacob Wiesner.
