Area residents have another chance to help the environment and rid their homes of unwanted antifreeze, oven cleaners and furniture stains at the same time.
Saturday, June 20, is this year's third collection date at the Lawrence-Douglas County Household Hazardous Waste Collection facility, located at the county's public works yard, 711 E. 23rd.
During the event, scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon, area residents can drop off their unwanted household hazardous wastes, which will be set aside for proper storage, disposal and even reuse. Volunteers from FMC Corp. and Professional Services Inc. will be on hand to handle the wastes.
People should be sure that wastes are in their original containers and suitable for transport, officials said. Among those accepted for disposal: Pest control products, household cleaners, automotive products and paint and hobby items.
Other events are scheduled for July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19 and Oct. 17. For more information, call 832-3030.
