— Star Pearce of Wichita edged Lawrence's Elaine Brady by a stroke Wednesday to win the KWGA Senior golf championship at Lake Shawnee.

Pearce and Brady were deadlocked with 78s after the first 18 holes. Pearce shot an 85 on Wednesday while Brady carded an 86.

Lawrence's Sidney Garrett finished eighth with an 84-86--170 and Darlene Allen was 13th with an 86-97--183.

Rebels snare pair

of Wichita games

Wichita -- Jeff Davis hurled a one-hitter over 4 1/3 innings as the Lawrence Rebels, a traveling baseball team, clipped the Wichita Seminoles, 8-1, in the second game of a baseball doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Rebels won the opener, 10-5, as Monte Mitchell hit a three-run homer and Kevin Reeves and Mike McCuan collected three hits apiece. Brody Lynn slammed a three-run triple in the nightcap.

Mason in 10th

Buffalo, N.Y. -- Kansas University's Candy Mason was in 10th place with 3,120 points Wednesday after four events of the heptathlon at the NCAA track and field meet.


Due to a source error, the name of one of the competitors in the Golden Eagle Fun Run was misspelled in Wednesday's Scoreboard. The 12th place finisher was Chuck Sinks.
