Allen Golf Classic: The first Terry Allen Golf Classic to benefit Muscular Dystrophy will be June 22 at Alvamar Country Club. The format is an 18-hole four-man scramble. For information, call the Muscular Dystrophy Association at 913 859-0632.

KU Soccer Camps: Kansas soccer coach Dan Magner will conduct a camp for boys and girls ages six through 17 from June 28 to July 2. An advanced camp for boys and girls ages 14-18 is planned for July 26-30. For information, call Magner at 864-3556.

  • Adams Honored: Jennifer Adams, a Lawrence High product, has been named Oarswoman of the Year on the Kansas women's rowing team. Adams was captain of the 1997-98 KU crew team.

  • Davis Has Low Gross: George Davis fired a 74 and edged Mike Grosdidier by a stroke in last Sunday's gross portion of the Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar. Tim Quinn was third with a 77. In net, Nathan Goodman was low with a 65, followed by Quinn with a 67 and Dan Hamilton at 69.

  • Lamer, Burger Earn Seconds: Lawrence's Todd Burger and Stacy Lamer earned second-place finishes in last weekend's Missouri Fat Tire bike series in Chadwick, Mo. Burger and Lamer were runners-up in expert men and women races respectively. Lawrence's Larry Spray was third in Masters Men and Doug Plummer fourth in expert men.

  • Flames Take Second: Lawrence Flames U-10 placed second in the Kansas AAU basketball tournament. Team members are Rachel Amyx, Lacey Elmore, Emily Erb, Kelly Hartford, Drew Huff, Megan Klingler, Kala Nolte, Cara Tompkins, Missy Vinyard and Sydney Wilson. Coaches are Darrell Huff and Doug Wilson.

  • Haase Video: Former Kansas University basketball player Jerod Haase has introduced a new video that includes drills, techniques and inspirational thoughts for boys and girls interested in basketball. It's available by calling 331-3739 or 913-550-0609. Haase will hold camps for youths on June 8 and June 24 at Sport2Sport.

  • Pullins, Wilson Tops: Lawrence's Jerry Pullins and Dick Wilson were age-group winners in the half-marathon portion of the Hospital Hill Run last Sunday in Kansas City, Mo. Pullins won the 20-24 age group in 1:13:43 and Wilson the 65-69 category in 1:33:42. Other Lawrence runners who finished in the top three in age group competition were Greg Burger, Ross McDaniel, Steve Riley, Carol McFall and Dee Boeck. In the 12K, Lawrence's Russell Siler and Michael Johnson were 1-2 in the 20-24 group and Paul Heitzman of Eudora won the 65-69 division.

  • Fun Run Champs: Brady Morningstar and Emilie Gillespie, both of Quail Run. were the boys and girls winners respectively in the Sunflower Golden Eagle Fun Run for fifth- and sixth-graders on the South Lawrence Trafficway fitness trail on Monday.

  • Territorial Trifectas: Deadline is next Wednesday for entering the Lecompton Territorial Day 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Competition will be in four age groups for both boys and girls -- third and fourth grades, fifth and sixth, seventh and eighth and ninth and 10th. For information, call 887-6182.

  • Gill Cards Ace: Jim Gill of Lawrence used a seven-iron to fire a hole-in-one Wednesday on the par-three, 132-yard No. 11 hole at Alvamar Country Club. Witnesses were Jack Cummings and Alex Boyle.

  • Free State Tennis: Current and future Free State High tennis players interested in group or individual lessons this summer can call coach Jon Renberger at 749-3008 for information.
