Man accused of lewd behavior
A Gardner man accused of exposing himself to two women and later masturbating in front of two other women Wednesday night was quickly arrested by police.
Two female Kansas University students were in their car at the stoplight at Sixth and Wisconsin streets when the 33-year-old man allegedly pulled up his shorts, exposing his buttocks. The incident occurred at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Fifteen minutes later, two other women in a car at the intersection reported the same man pulled down his pants and began masturbating.
Police stopped the suspect at 12:20 a.m. Thursday downtown, based on a description given by the victims. While the police were questioning him, one of the women happened to be driving by and identified the suspect, Police Officer Michael Monroe said.
Monroe said investigators routinely check unsolved lewd and lascivious cases when a suspect is arrested to see if they might be related. There have been at least six reports of similar behavior on the Kansas University campus last semester, but no connection has been established.
The man was arrested on two counts each of indecent exposure and lewd and lascivious behavior. He will appear in court at 3 p.m. Thursday.
