County spelling bee

deadlines approaching

They'll be using $10 words, but the competition is free for contestants in the 1998 Douglas County Spelling Bee.

Each Douglas County school may send one representative. Home schoolers may select one representative from their collective pool of students as well.

Entry forms must be returned to St. John's School by Feb. 2, 1998. The Douglas County Spelling Bee will be Feb. 14 in the St. John's School gym, 1208 Ky. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and competition begins at 10 a.m.

To be eligible, students must not have completed eighth grade and must not have reached the age of 16 by the date of the National Spelling Bee on May 27. Schools may decide the method by which their school champion is determined.
