The Coach's Edge of Lawrence said Tuesday it signed a three-year contract with CBS Sports to provide animations and analysis for CBS coverage of NCAA basketball.

CBS and Coach's Edge pioneered the use of animations for sports during the 1995-96 basketball season. The new contract expands that relationship into a multiple-year deal.

Coach's Edge spokesman John Erck said the new contract also includes a provision for the company's product to be used in CBS coverage of other sports besides basketball.

Coach's Edge animations and three-dimensional graphics will be used for regular and post-season games, including games in the 1998, 1999 and 2000 Final Four. The animations can also be seen on the company's Web site at

``This contract does a number of things for Coach's Edge,'' said Chris Davis, chief executive officer. ``It puts us in the national spotlight at key times, and allows us to advance our mission to raise the level of understanding among sports enthusiasts at all levels.''

Neither Coach's Edge nor CBS would disclose financial terms of the deal.

Coach's Edge was founded in 1994 with the intention of using animation technology to make understanding sports easier.
