Ottawa school board

discusses calendar

The Ottawa school board on Monday night discussed a possible change in the school calendar that would result in classes starting and ending later than under the current schedule.

Board President Sam Sheldon said the board is looking at having school start after Labor Day and end in early to mid-June. Currently, school starts in mid-August and ends before Memorial Day.

Costs to air condition schools in August are among the reasons the board is considering the change, he said.

No action was taken.
