Services for James John Vigna, 88, Eudora, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.
Mr. Vigna died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Jan. 20, 1910, in East Mineral, the son of Joseph and Petronilla Vigna. He grew up in East Mineral and moved to Lawrence in 1954.
He worked in the coal mines at an early age for the Pittsburg Midway Coal Co. and also worked for the MKT Railroad. In 1954, he was employed as a foreman with the Co-op Farm Chemical Plant in Lawrence. He worked there for 21 years, retiring in 1972.
He was a past master of Scammon Lodge No. 351 A.F. & A.M. and the Pursel Chapter No. 110 Order of the Eastern Star, Columbus. He served two terms as master of the Doric Lodge No. 83 A.F. & A.M. in Eudora.
On Nov. 18, 1939, he married Opal Isabel Brynds at Carthage, Mo. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert James, Russell, Ky., and Richard Joe, Lawrence; a daughter, Linda Jean Vigna, Lawrence; two sisters, Mabel Crete, Roseland, and Genevieve "Ginnie" Young, Midland, Mich.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Cottonwood Inc., sent in care of the mortuary.
