looking for arsonist
A small fire Friday afternoon in an elevator in Kansas University's Malott Hall was set intentionally, KU police said Monday.
And now authorities want to know who set it.
Investigators on Monday were awaiting test results and were not sure what type of material was used to start the fire, indicating only that it was "some sort of liquid."
Among other things, Malott Hall houses the KU chemistry department.
At 3:05 p.m., firefighters were called to the campus building, where the fire had been started on the floor of a freight elevator in the middle of the west wing. A number of students were evacuated; the fire caused about $50 damage.
The fire was "put out without causing too much damage," KU Police Sgt. Chris Keary said.
As of Monday evening, there was no suspect information.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call KU Crime Stoppers, 864-8888.
