Browning said the quality of the pavement marking is "excellent," but he noted that the final average thickness for yellow and white paint were 20 mils and 21 mils, respectively, although payment was based on a 15-mil thickness.

Browning, who took over as public works director earlier this year, has recommended that bids for pavement marking should be opened in April rather than later in the year.

"An earlier bid letting will provide the contractor more flexibility when to paint, which will result in lower bids," Browning said. "In addition, next year's contract can be based upon linear feet of striping, which will tie the contract to a known amount."
