A new product line to be added at Amarr Garage Doors by mid-1999 will add 31 full-time jobs at its Lawrence plant.
The company has re-engineered its hinge and joint design to make pinch-resistant doors, and the new line will build them. Eventually, all of the company's products will be pinch-resistant, said Tom Welsh, vice president and chief operating officer.
The company has applied for tax breaks on the $3.65 million it will spend adding production capacity.
Now, the company makes four types of metal doors at the Lawrence plant.
Ranging in price from about $300 for its basic line to more than $800, the doors offer a range of options like windows, insulation and trims.
"Most people have no idea there's so much to a garage door," said Richard Brenner, Amarr president. "But there's a lot going on at that facility."
Amarr also sells a line of wooden doors and garage door openers through its network of 57 Amarr Door Centers across the United States, Mexico and Canada.
