Services for Opal M. Pohl, 93, Lawrence, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Worden Cemetery, Worden.
Mrs. Pohl died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 3, 1905, in Franklin County, the daughter of Frank and Lula Stover Steen. She graduated from Vinland High School in 1923, and had been a resident of Lawrence since 1944 when she moved from Baldwin.
Mrs. Pohl taught for several years in Douglas and Franklin county schools. She later worked in the meat and deli department of Rusty's IGA for 25 years. She retired in 1975.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Service Class, Douglas County Retired Teacher's Assn., Rebekah Lodge and Autumn Club.
She married Ernest A. Pohl on May 1, 1928 in Ottawa. He died in August 1964.
Survivors include two daughters, Laurine Kersch, of the home, and Mary Ann Corbin, Lawrence; a son, Marvin E. Pohl, Topeka; a brother, Orliff L. Steen, Manhattan; a sister, Geneva VanValkenburg, Montezuma; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
The family suggests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, sent in care of the mortuary.
