With the recent Thanksgiving holiday the trash that was due to get picked up on Thursday got picked up on Friday. For those people out of town that leaves no other option. Does the city have another place to take trash when you'll be out of town and miss the pick-up time?

"When holidays fall on a regularly scheduled residential trash collection day, the trash is picked up on the next regular working day," said Bob Yoos, the city's solid waste manager.

"Any time a regular trash collection is missed when a resident is out of town -- whether for a holiday or otherwise -- the resident must make alternate arrangements.

"The city does not have places that people may take trash and leave it when collections are missed. Private individuals can use the Hamm Sanitary Landfill for depositing trash and debris during their regularly scheduled hours.

"A better alternative for most people would be to arrange for a friend or neighbor to put out the trash on the day of collection."
