— Services for Alma Irene Bess, 75, Topeka, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Assembly of God church in Topeka. Burial will be in Carbondale Cemetery, Carbondale.

Ms. Bess died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at a Topeka nursing home.

She was born Dec. 13, 1922, to George and Arizona Mae Hinckel Morris in Clarksville, Ark. She grew up and attended school in Clarksville. She moved to Topeka in 1962.

She married Robert Hawkins in Arkansas. They divorced.

She married Arthur Eugene Bess on July 19, 1947, in Advance, Mo. They also divorced.

Survivors include her companion, Lawrence Tipton, Carbondale; a son, Arlie E. Bess, El Dorado; five daughters, Mary Corene Doyle, Adamsville, Tenn., Myrtle Lorraine Bedwell, Independence, Mo., and Nola J. Clark, Debra Ann Burd and Dorothy F. Adams, all of Topeka; four brothers, Roy Morris and Herman Morris, both of Lawrence, Louis Morris, Knoxville, Ark., and Coy Morris of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Zona Lapel, Faler; 22 grandchildren;, 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A son, James Hawkins, died on Oct. 17, 1969.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Monday at the Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

The family suggests memorials to the American Diabetes Assn., sent in care of the funeral home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave, Topeka 66608.
