* A 27-year-old Lawrence resident was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital Saturday after being beaten during an argument near the Kansas River banks east of the Lawrence Riverfront Plaza Factory Outlets. Sgt. George Wheeler said the man and others were drinking alcoholic beverages when the argument escalated. The victim and others who were still nearby when police responded did not say who the suspect was or what weapon was used. According to police reports, the man had possible broken bones and a deep cut. Wheeler said he was bleeding severely from the mouth and head when police arrived.

Industrial accident

  • Jerry L. Morris, Lawrence, was in serious but stable condition at the Kansas University Medical Center after he fell 25 to 30 feet from the roof at a Sauer-Sundstrand construction site Tuesday afternoon. Morris works for Story Construction of Ames, Iowa.

Condition reports

  • Dustin Barnes, 22, Lawrence, was listed in critical condition Tuesday night in an intensive care unit at the Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., where he was taken after suffering injuries while riding a bicycle and being struck by a car on Sunday afternoon.
