— The Perry-Lecompton school board on Monday night approved an engineering study for computerized environmental controls for the Perry-Lecompton High School.

The engineering study, which will be conducted by a yet-to-be-determined company, will cost $3,000 to $4,000, Supt. Henry Murphy said.

Depending on results of the study, the board will then decide whether to approve an estimated $112,000 for controls and materials for a computerized temperature system at the school, he said.

Such a system could end up saving the district money in the long run, Murphy said.

In other business, the board approved a $5.73 million budget for the 1998-99 school year, slightly more than the $5.6 million budget this year.

The levy will drop from 42.69 mills this year to 37.66 mills next year, Murphy said.

A mill is $1 in property taxes for every $1,000 in assessed valuation.
