Douglas County commissioners on Monday approved a request from Eudora to annex three parcels of land.
County administrator Craig Weinaug told the board the annexation request did not need the commission's approval because the tracts of land were contiguous to a pre-existing ``island'' of Eudora, but he said it would be a good idea for the county to approve the annexation request.
``It just makes the existing island bigger,'' Weinaug explained to commissioners Tom Taul and Dean Nieder. Commissioner Mark Buhler was out of town.
The board agreed the annexation would not hinder the ``proper growth and development'' of the county.
The Eudora City Council earlier approved the annexation request for Norbert Grosdidier's property south and west of Eudora High School.
It also annexed property comprising the township road easement along the southern boundary.
Eudora Township Trustee Eugene Westerhouse said his only concern was that the road continue to be properly maintained.
As part of the approval, commissioners also approved two annexation requests for a 30-foot-wide strip of land for future road right-of-way. Grosdidier made one of those requests, and Larry Wilson made the other.
Commissioners joked good-naturedly with Grosdidier after approving his request.
``Norbert, you're a developer now,'' Taul said laughing.
