All nine of Douglas County's township clerk posts are up for election this year. Only three of the posts were sought by candidates who declared for Tuesday's primary.
All ran unopposed, advancing to the general election. They are: Alvin Fishburn, Republican, Clinton Township; Frank Rhodes, Republican, Marion Township; and Alice Randel, Democrat, Palmyra Township.
In Palmyra, two Republicans, Tom Church and John Vesecky, earned exactly three votes and will, if the results stand after Friday's canvassing by Douglas County commissioners, be involved in a coin toss to decide whose name will appear on the ballot opposite Randel.
In Wakarusa Township, write-in candidates Steve Sublett, a Republican, and Cheri Varvil, a Democrat, earned enough votes -- at least three -- to appear on the November general election ballot.
Also appearing on the November ballot will be Republican Jerry Smith in Willow Springs, Republican Jeanne Waisner in Kanwaka and Republican Jim Gabriel in Eudora.
In two townships -- Grant and Lecompton -- no write-in candidate received enough votes to appear on the November ballot.
