De Soto The DeSoto school board on Monday night approved a budget of about $13.5 million for the 1998-99 school year.
Taxpayers in the district will see their mill levy decrease from 79.58 mills to 69.52 mills under the new budget, said Carol Farmer, community relations coordinator for the district.
A mill is $1 in property taxes for every $1,000 in assessed valuation.
Farmer said the drop occurred because of a drop in the state-mandated school mill levy and because of population growth in the district.
In other business, the board approved a groundbreaking for the new high school at noon Aug. 15.
The district also will have an open house of all of its buildings from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on that date, Farmer said.
Enrollment in the district will be held Wednesday and Thursday. Classes begin Aug. 19.
