Kansas University's School of Business recently named 21 of its most successful graduates as the first recipients of the school's Distinguished Alumni Award. Four Lawrence residents received the honor.
During its almost 75-year history, many KU School of Business alumni have made notable accomplishments in business and in their communities. The award honors the most outstanding of that group.
``We are enthusiastic about the prospect of publicly recognizing and acknowledging the great success of our graduates,'' said Tom Sarowski, dean of the school. ``This group certainly exemplifies for our students the tremendous success that can be built on a KU business degree.''
Those recognized with Honorary Distinguished Alumni Awards were selected on the basis of having received the Fred Ellsworth Medallion or the Distinguished Service Citation.
The Distinguished Service Citation, presented by the university and the Kansas Alumni Association, salutes outstanding achievements ``for the betterment of society and in behalf of humanity.'' It is the highest award given by KU. The Fred Ellsworth Medallion, presented by the Alumni Association, honors those ``who have provided unique and significant service to the university.''
Future distinguished alumni will be chosen through nominations submitted by alumni and friends of the school.
