Warmed by El Nino and financed at interest rates near record lows, Lawrence home builders got off to the fastest start in three years this January.
It's a trend that's likely to continue into 1998, observers say.
``I have a strong feeling it's going to be better than last year,'' said Neal Ezell, president of the Lawrence Home Builders Assn.
As gauged by permits issued for single-family and duplex construction, home construction last year fell to its lowest level since 1990.
Single-family construction alone was up slightly from 1996, but still slightly below the 10-year average.
