A materials muncher, a prospective car lot and a topsoil-removing permit are all looking for approval tonight from Douglas County commissioners.

Among the items up for approval during the meeting, scheduled to begin at 6:35 p.m. at the county courthouse, 11th and Massachusetts:

  • A request from LRM Industries Inc. to operate a machine to crush construction materials at a site northwest of North 1300 Road and East 1750 Road. Lawrence-Douglas County planning commissioners recommended approving a conditional-use permit for the project.
  • A request for rezoning to allow for sales and repair of preowned automobiles at a site across Kansas Highway 10 from the East Hills Business Park. Howard Smith wants his six acres rezoned from agricultural to light-industrial uses, a proposal unanimously opposed by planning commissioners.
  • A request to allow Royal Topsoil to remove topsoil from property at 1762 East 936 Road, south of the Kansas Turnpike. Planning commissioners unanimously supported the request.
