The Texas Peanut Producers Board offers these facts about peanuts:

Americans consume more than 4 million pounds of peanuts each day.

There are about 540 peanuts in a 12-ounce jar of peanut butter.

An acre of peanuts can yield more than 30,000 peanut butter sandwiches.

The PBJ is the most popular sandwich children carry to school, and before the average student graduates from high school he or she will have downed 1,500 of them.

Six of the top 10 selling candy bars in the United States contain peanuts or peanut butter.

More than half of all edible peanuts go into the production of peanut butter. An estimated 25 percent is used for candy and 19 percent for salted peanut products.

Per capita, Americans eat 9 pounds of peanuts a year. Four pounds of that are consumed in the form of peanut butter.
