The following statement regarding a child care center at FSHS was released by Marlene Merrill, director of assessment and grants for the district.

``A committee of teachers and administrators during this school year studied the possibility of establishing a child care program for parenting high school students at Free State High School. It was determined that the existing district services could provide for the needs of parenting secondary students.

``The school district was awarded by the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services a Child Care and Development Block Grant. No funds had been spent and SRS has been notified that the district will not utilize the funds from this grant program.''

I'm 18 and I was adopted at birth, and I was wondering what process I have to go through to get my adoption records?

You should be able to get your records from the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitative Services by calling their adoption search line at (785) 296-8744. However, if you were adopted out of state, you may have problems. SRS may not be able to get the records itself, but would likely be able to direct you to the agency in the adoption state that can help you.

Can you provide the address that I can write to so I can get my name off junk mail lists?

Write to the following: The Mail Preference Service Direct Marketing Assn., P.O. Box 9008, Farmingdale, N.Y., 11735-9008.

Also, the address for telephone solicitations is: Telephone Preference Service Direct Marketing Assn., P.O. Box 9014, Farmingdale, N.Y., 11735-9014.

Cheryl Bowman, administrative assistant at the main Lawrence post office, said it was important for people to list all the ways they are being addressed in junk mail.

For instance, if names are misspelled or if initials are used, people should list those, she said.

``They won't pick up all those unless you tell them,'' she said.
