Free State High School's cheerleading team earned numerous awards this summer during a National Cheerleaders Assn. summer camp at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Varsity squad members are Brianne Bartz, Jodie Johnson, Jill Jerrick and Lindsey Luman, all seniors, and Kim Baker, Erin Berg, Jessica Frerichs, Heidi Lange, Amanda Larkin, Heather Pearson, Mari Schumann and Shana Slocum, all juniors.
The squad earned a spirit stick each night of camp. The squad suffered two injuries that prevented it from qualifying for national championships. The varsity squad also received the team award for being a squad that exemplified leadership, values and teamwork, as well as a stunt smart award.
Junior varsity squad members are Nichole Weatherwax, a junior, and Kindra Bartz, Lindsey Belot, Jessica Diffley, Sarah Hooper, Kayla Huffman, Nicole Mater, Randi McGovern, Allison Mitchell, Janae Morgan, all sophomores.
They received superior ribbons in daily evaluations; a spirit stick three of four days; a team award; and stunt smart award.
The sophomore squad -- Jeni Beletz, Antonia Fulks, Jenny Hammond, Nicole Harper, Alyssa Johnson and Mary Place -- received the spirit stick three of four days and a team award.
Nominated for National Cheerleading Assn. All Americans were Kim Baker, Jessica Frerichs, Heidi Lange, Mari Schumann, Jessica Diffley, Kayla Huffman, Allison Mitchell, Janae Morgan and Alyssa Johnson. Lange and Frerichs are All Americans.
Free State won the champion chant award in the varsity and junior varsity divisions and won the superior team award in the junior varsity division. The entire team brought home a spirit stick.
The sophomore squad has these new members: Elizabeth Becker, Heather Rousselo, Joyce Worley and Cassidy Yeakel.
