The family of a 22-year-old man critically injured in a Sept. 1 head-on collision has established a fund to help pay medical bills.
The Ryan Wurtz Trust Fund was established Thursday at the Kaw Valley Bank, 739 Main, Eudora. Donations may be left at the bank or mailed.
Wurtz, who works as a computer operator at Allen Press in Lawrence, was in serious condition at the Kansas University Medical Center earlier this week. After surgery Thursday, however, he again was listed in critical condition.
Wurtz, Lawrence, suffered a broken jaw, cut liver, ruptured colon, cut ligaments and tendons in his right arm, a broken left arm, two broken legs, crushed feet and multiple cuts in the Labor Day accident. Family members said he had undergone more than 40 hours of surgery so far, and more surgery was expected.
The accident happened on Kansas Highway 10 near the Eudora exit, when Henrietta Johnson, 82, was driving in the wrong direction. Johnson, North Kansas City, Mo., was killed in the accident.
