EVENTS TO FOCUS ON FAST-PACED SCIENCE

— Paul Zaloom, who portrays Beakman on the television show "Beakman's World," is among those who will perform today through Sunday during the Kansas City Museum's Science City Weekend '97.

The event will kick off with "Countdown to 2000: Millennium Madness," featuring the Commodores and the Motown Revue, from 7 p.m. to midnight today at Bartle Hall. Proceeds will go to help create Science City at Union Station. For ticket information, call (816) 483-8300, ext. 236.

The free Science City Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Crown Center. Among the events are an appearance by Zaloom; birds from the Kansas City Zoo; interactive science shows by Stephen "The Dirtmeister" Tomecek; a yo-yo show by Wind Wizards; and "Weird Science," a group of science teachers doing fast-paced science tricks.
