— Memorial services for Warren Brice Guffey, 76, Meriden, will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Meriden United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be at Prairie Home Cemetery.

Mr. Guffey died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, at his son's home near Perry.

He was born Nov. 2, 1920, near Hoyt, the son of George Edward Guffey and Bertha Viola Uhl Guffey. He lived in Hoyt and Topeka, graduating from Seaman High School in 1940. He farmed in the Meriden area for 40 years, twice receiving the Jackson County award for soil conservation. He was also recognized by FFA for participating in agriculture education.

After living in Arizona for 10 years, he and his wife returned to the Meriden area in June.

Mr. Guffey was a member of United Methodist Church in Meriden. He was in the 82nd Airborne Division in World War II and served in Gen. Eisenhower's honor guard in Europe.

On Feb. 24, 1951, he married Margaret King. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Jerry, Cleveland, Jim, Perry, and Kevin, Meriden; a brother, Paul Ivan Guffey, DeSoto; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends following the services at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.

The family suggests memorials to Meriden United Methodist Church or Jefferson County Home Health & Hospice, sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home, Topeka.
