A 20-year-old Kansas University student was arrested early Wednesday for an alleged rape on campus late Tuesday.
The suspect was arrested at his East Lawrence residence at 6:46 a.m. Wednesday and released from Douglas County Jail at 2:15 p.m. Formal charges have not been filed by the district attorney's office.
The victim, an 18-year-old KU student, is an acquaintance of the suspect, said KU police Sgt. Chris Keary. Police said the woman and the suspect were both at an apartment at the Jayhawker Towers, 1603 W. 15th, when the alleged rape occurred, at 10:45 p.m.
The incident is the fourth rape reported in Lawrence in five days. All appear to be unrelated, but no suspects in the other three rapes had been arrested by Wednesday night.
Tuesday's rape is the second reported on campus this semester. Another 20-year-old male KU student was arrested Aug. 25 after a rape was reported in McCollum Residence Hall.
