Lawrence man arrested
for biting fingers
A doorman at a Lawrence bar may have gotten more than he bargained for when he tried to eject a verbally abusive patron.
An employee of the Sandbar, 117 E. Eighth, was taking cover charges at the door shortly after midnight Tuesday morning. Karl Hudson Wertzberger, 25, Lawrence, allegedly became unruly after waiting in line to enter the bar.
Police Sgt. Susan Hadl said Wertzberger bit the index finger of a man in line after he cut in line and an argument ensued. Wertzberger later allegedly made rude comments to the doorman, who asked Wertzberger to leave after returning his money.
Wertzberger then allegedly hit the doorman and bit his index finger, Hadl said. He was arrested on aggravated battery and battery charges, and was released from the Douglas County Jail at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday on $2,000 bond.
