The husband of a baby sitter is being investigated for child abuse after the family of a 2-year-old Lawrence girl noticed bruises and marks on the baby.
The baby was taken to a doctor on Thursday, after a grandmother noticed the bruises.
Although X-rays showed no broken bones, the baby had a sprained ankle.
The 28-year-old suspect denies battering the child, but said she had been stuck under a bed while playing, and that "he had to use force to get her out," police Sgt. Jim Miller said.
The alleged abuse happened at the baby sitter's house in the Brookwood Mobile Home Park at 1908 E. 19th. Miller said family members have noticed marks on the baby before, including bite marks, but thought the sitter's children may have been to blame.
Police had not yet interviewed the suspect as of Friday, Miller said.
