The owner of a local business found out last week just what kind of quality employees he has.
Darrell Norris, owner of Quality Electric, 1011 E. 31st St., was surprised by employees Friday with a reception at the Ramada Inn honoring Quality Electric's 25 years in business.
Norris' 15 employees planned the celebration a few weeks in advance.
"It was a nice honor," he said. "You go along for 25 years, just trying to run your business. I was very pleased to have this honor."
The employees contacted Norris' wife, Phyllis, to make sure he would be in town for the event. She helped pull off the surprise.
"We told him that our son-in-law had business in town and was staying at the Ramada. We were going to go pick him up for dinner," Phyllis Norris said.
Company vice president Mike Bowman helped orchestrate the reception. He said the business's anniversary was in October, but scheduling problems pushed the reception to November.
"He's done a lot for us," Bowman said. "The reception was a way for us to say thank you and to congratulate him for being so successful."
In addition to the party, employees presented Norris with a framed print and a poster with the company's logo on it.
"I thought it was a wonderful thing for his employees to do," Phyllis Norris said.
Past employees, friends and family were invited to the event. Norris' two daughters and their families came in from out of town to surprise him, also.
"I was very pleased by the attendance. For all the planning and people involved, they sure pulled one over on me. I had no idea," Darrell Norris said.
Bowman estimated that between 100 and 150 people attended the event.
