Santa Fe Trail dominates all-Kaw Valley grid team

Kaw Valley League champion Santa Fe Trail, which finished the football season with an 8-1 record, placed eight players on the all-KVL first team.

SFT's John McAdoo, Joe Cross, Wes Lang, Brett Fenton and Zac Anshutz were listed on the first team offense. Fenton, John Mayes, Trevor Hall and Rodney Michael were on the first defensive unit.

Perry-Lecompton's Garrett Carver was selected on offense and defense. P-L's Matt Turpin made the offensive team and Joe Corcoran made the defensive squad.

Chieftains headline

all-KVL soccer team

Four members of Tonganoxie's state quarterfinalist squad were selected to the all-Kaw Valley League soccer first team.

Ray Lobb, Brett Lowe, Jack Low were first-team picks for offense and Joe Gepner made the defensive unit.

DeSoto's Craig Dickerson and Charlie Fitzgerald also made the KVL team.

Wellsville to play

at Silver Lake in semis

Wellsville, which rallied for a 35-28 football victory over Galena on Saturday, will play at Silver Lake in a Class 3A state semifinal on Friday. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Jonny Gould's 39-yard touchdown run with 54 seconds left capped the Eagles' comeback against Galena.

Wellsville, a state finalist a year ago, will take an 8-3 record to Silver Lake.

Silver Lake, 10-1, advanced to the semifinal with a 68-14 romp of Nemaha Valley.
