Memorial services for Larry J. Heeb, 56, Lawrence, will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Private burial at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence, will precede the service.
Mr. Heeb died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at his home in Lawrence following a long illness.
He was born Feb. 28, 1941, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Sylvia Frey Heeb. He was a longtime Lawrence resident.
Mr. Heeb served as vice president, secretary and director of deferred giving for the Kansas University Endowment Association from 1969 to 1984, when he retired. Formerly, he was assistant to the business manager at the Lawrence Journal-World and a certified public accountant at Arthur Young and Co.
He was a 1959 graduate of Lawrence High School, where he was an All-State football player. He received a bachelor's degree in 1964 and a master's degree in 1965, both in accounting, from Kansas University. He served as a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a life member of the KU Alumni Association, member of the Delta Upsilon social fraternity and member of the Lawrence Free Methodist Church.
He received the Distinguished Service Award for the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education in January 1979, which is given for fund-raising activities.
On Aug. 18, 1962, he married Karen Stuart in Lawrence. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three sons, Jay, Phoenix, Jon, Lawrence, and Joseph, Hampton, Va.; a brother, Jeff Heeb, Lawrence; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence. The family will greet friends at the church following the services.
The family requests memorials to the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., the KU Endowment Association or the Navigator Ministry at KU, sent in care of the mortuary.
