For 11 student artists and their local adult heroes, "There's No Face Like Home."
The project is the culmination of written stories and a 3-foot-by-6-foot mural created by East Heights and New York elementary school fifth- and sixth-graders. Students made plaster casts of their faces and the faces of local role models and incorporated them into the mural. Storyteller Priscilla Howe and artist Sarah Oblinger worked with the children to create the mural.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception of "There's No Face Like Home" from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the East Lawrence Community Center.
The exhibit is the pilot project of Van Go Mobile Arts Inc., a new nonprofit organization designed to bring artists and art programs to children in Lawrence and surrounding northeast Kansas towns.
