Does the health department inspect beauty shops and barber shops in Lawrence, and what do they check for?
The Kansas Board of Barbering inspects barber shops and the Kansas Board of Cosmetology inspects beauty salons. The boards are state agencies and oversee the licensing of the businesses. Rocky Bacek, administrator for the Kansas Board of Barbering, said one inspector visits all barber shops in the state at least once a year. Regulations cover sanitation issues, and all barber shops and beauty salons must have a posted license and inspection sheet, Bacek said.
